Will not fix maintenance issues. I unfortunately lived in one of these properties for 5 years, and the landlord was terrible. The ceiling leaks from my ceiling in MULTIPLE places, and have 4 out of the 5 years I've lived here. Maintenance and the landlord act like they have no clue what's going on, and pass the buck back and forth between each other, resulting in nothing getting done! I lost a one-of-a-kind VIP poster that was irreplaceable worth hundreds of dollars, and the landlords response is "get renters insurance". How about fix my ceiling!!!! The ceiling has leaked so badly now that the maintenance guy literally had to rebuild sections of the apartment below us, and the people had to move out, 2 different sets of people! Even then, maintenance doesn't care enough to permanently fix it so people don't have to worry about their belongings. When we moved in, the apartment was FILTHY, and rented to us "as-is", meaning you do their job and you clean it! We were rented the property at $695 a month. We were told the people who have nicer windows paid $795. Well now we pay $925 and we still have the same crappy windows!! In the front bedroom, you can literally hear EVERYTHING that happens walking by. Dog barks? You hear it. Person walking by talking on their phone? You hear it. No insulation from the windows, and no upgrades even though every other unit was upgraded with new windows. In our unit, you can't use multiple appliances in the kitchen without blowing a fuse! We got a George Foreman grill, and using it towards the end I started the microwave and the fuse in the kitchen blew. There's mold throughout the apartment, and the maintenance knows about it, because I sent them a picture when my sink fell apart underneath, and there's black mold underneath. Maintenance took a board and nailed it over the hole......it looks so tacky. Lately they have been "renovating" units, meaning you get a dishwasher, "new kitchen" and "new bathroom" and you get to pay for the upgrades at $1250 a month, when these apartments aren't worth that much, especially when the landlord talks to his tenants like they're garbage. The first person to rent a "renovated" unit in my building is literally moving out as I type this because they said that apartment wasn't worth $1150, and now the landlord wants $1250 a month since COVID is over. The final straw was last week when I simply asked the landlord if he would please fix the leaks I've been dealing with for 4 years, and he told me I could get on Zillow and find a new place if I was unhappy with my leaking ceiling. When I called him because I couldn't believe someone would talk to me like that for no reason, he stated he was "tired of my sh*t"." What sh*t? Paying my rent for 5 years? Never causing any problems? I have already taken the step of contacting the city of Richmond through Fair Housing of VA, you can't treat your tenants that way and not get sued. Stay far away, a passive aggressive landlord, leaking ceilings, maintenance who either won't or can't fix stuff, if you want peace of mind, find a better property!
